Our sunscreen contains no water or liquid making it a thicker stick and longer lasting. Most sunscreen contain water and some even up to 60% of product.
Dispense a small amount of Just Skin Food natural and organic sunscreen by pushing up underneath lotion stick and blend well on the surface of skin.
Apply evenly 15 minutes before sun exposure.
Reapply sunscreen at least every 2 hours - more often if you are sweating or in water.

If this is your first summer using mineral sunscreen, it’s helpful to review some basics before hitting the beach. There is a big difference between mineral and chemical sunscreens when applying.
Have you ever been sunburned even though you put on sunscreen? I certainly have. What’s the deal? Even with the safest mineral sunscreen, it’s important to apply enough and to reapply often. But what exactly is “enough” sunscreen? And what’s the best way to apply mineral sunscreen to get full coverage? We’ve broken these questions down to ensure you enjoy safe outdoor adventures year round!
Using mineral sunscreen isn’t complicated, but it’s important to understand how it works.
Mineral sunscreen works by sitting on top of the skin. This means that if you do not apply enough, you are not going to get the protection you expect. And a lot of people under-apply mineral sunscreen because it leaves a white cast on the skin. People tend to rub it into the skin deeply instead of just spreading it.
Did you know that it takes about 2 tablespoon of sunscreen to cover an average adult body?
*Most people do not apply enough sunscreen! Apply half of the recommended amount of sunscreen gives you only the square root of SPF protection. So applying only half of the recommended amount of an SPF 30 or 31 is like wearing only an SPF 5 or 6!
How you apply sunscreen is the biggest difference when switching from chemical to mineral sunscreen.
Tip #1: Apply a thick coat that covers all of your skin, then apply more as needed making sure you are fully covered with a white thick shimmer. Many say they look ghostly but mineral zinc sunscreens are that way. Finally, give the sunscreen time to dry a little to help it to stay in place. Usually apply fifteen minutes before heading out. Or stay under shade while drying. All mineral sunscreens require a 15 minute drying time. This is stated on our label. To apply 15 minutes before heading out.
Tip #2: Less is NOT more.
When in doubt about how much sunscreen to apply, remember that there is no such thing as too much sunscreen. If you think you’re not applying enough, you’re probably right! It never hurts to take a few extra minutes to ensure that you’re sun safe and remain burn-free for the days and years to come.
Tip #3: If need be, apply sunscreen in layers.
Want to be sure that you’re applying the maximum amount of sunscreen? We suggest putting a layer of sunscreen on your skin and letting it dry for at least 15 minutes (I recommend a good 30 minutes when using this technique). Then, apply another layer all over, or just on the parts of your body that tend to burn the most (in many cases the face, shoulders, and chest), but every person is different and it’s up to you.
Tip #4: If you wait until you start to burn, it’s too late!
Putting on sunscreen after your skin has started to turn pink will not stop the burning process. That’s why we recommend putting on sunscreen 15 minutes before going outside.
Tip #5: Take extra steps to stay safe.
Even if you apply enough sunscreen, you still need to take extra precautions to stay protected from the sun. Make sure to wear a hat or a light shirt under peak hours 10am-4pm if you easily burn.
When to reapply mineral sunscreen:
• At least every 2 hours. The FDA suggests that you reapply at least every 2 hours and we say just remember to be mindful of your body and of your circumstances. Use your best judgement and reapply often when the sun is strong and your skin is exposed, even if you haven’t reached the 2-hour mark yet. This is especially important for those who tend to burn easily (like myself!) and/or are outside during the peak sun hours of the day (10am-4pm).
• Every 40-80 minutes if sweating or swimming.
• After drying off. Since mineral sunscreen is designed to sit on top of the skin, the minute you wipe off sweat or water, you’ve just wiped off sunscreen! So, if you intend to stay outside after drying off, be sure to get in the habit of putting sunscreen back on.
• If you brush up against anything. If you’re putting on clothes after applying mineral sunscreen, then you’re probably noticing white marks on your clothes. Believe it or not, you’ve just removed some sunscreen. Be sure to check where you may have inadvertently rubbed off any sunscreen and reapply for full coverage.
Frequently Asked Question...
Can I mix makeup with mineral sunscreen?
No. If you mix anything into mineral sunscreen you dilute the minerals. If you dilute the mineral concentration you will not get the SPF you expect, and can potentially get sunburned.
REMEMBER - No sunscreen can provide 100% protection – not even SPF 100. So if you’re planning to spend the day at the beach, then find or create shade, or take a break inside during peak sun hours of 10am and 4pm.
